- Best for: air-conditioning & refrigeration lines (ASTM B280), potable water & gas plumbing (EN 1057 / ASTM B88), heat exchangers where heat transfer rules, medical gas pipelines, battery & liquid cooling
- Less suitable for: parts needing high strength, hardness, or heavy machining — the alloy range wins there
- Composition: copper alloyed with zinc, tin, or aluminum; golden to bronze color by grade
- Key properties: higher tensile strength and hardness than pure copper; superior machinability (free-machining grades); lower cost per kg; admiralty C44300 and aluminum brass C68700 resist dezincification in seawater
- Best for: condenser & heat-exchanger tubing in power, marine, and petrochemical service (ASTM B111); valve, fitting, and instrument stock; turned precision components; structural hardware
- Less suitable for: maximum heat-transfer or electrical-conductivity applications — pure copper wins there
